Polarized Electrolytic capacitor usually plays the role of power filter, decoupling, signal coupling, time constant setting and DC isolation in the power circuit or intermediate frequency and low-frequency circuit. Generally, it cannot be used in AC power circuits. When used as a filtering capacitor in DC power circuits, the anode (positive pole) should be connected to the positive terminal of the power supply voltage, and the cathode (negative pole) should be connected to the negative terminal of the power supply voltage. It cannot be reversed, otherwise it will damage the capacitor. The non-polar Electrolytic capacitor is usually used in the loudspeaker divider circuit, the TV S correction circuit and the starting circuit of single-phase motor.

The rated working voltage range is 6.3-450V. Its disadvantages are high dielectric loss, large capacity error (maximum allowable deviation of 100%, -20%), poor high-temperature resistance, and easy failure due to long storage time. The polarity of the Electrolytic capacitor, pay attention to the observation that there is "-" on the side of the Electrolytic capacitor, which is the negative pole. If the Electrolytic capacitor is not marked with positive and negative poles, it can also be judged according to the length of its pin. When the positive pole of the Electrolytic capacitor is connected to the positive power supply (black stylus in resistance gear), and the negative terminal is connected to the negative power supply (red stylus in resistance gear), the leakage current of the Electrolytic capacitor is small (large leakage resistance). On the contrary, the leakage current of Electrolytic capacitor increases (the leakage resistance decreases).
When measuring, assume that a certain pole is the "" pole, connect it to the black lead of the multimeter, and connect the other pole to the red lead of the multimeter. Record the scale at which the needle stops (the resistance value on the left side of the needle is high), and then discharge the capacitor (by touching the two leads). Adjust the two leads and repeat the measurement. In the two measurements, the black probe was connected to the positive pole of the Electrolytic capacitor when the needle stayed on the left (high resistance).
